America's Paw Spaw

We have noticed that your dog’s coat has developed severe matting. We understand that life can get busy, and grooming may unintentionally be overlooked. However, it’s very important to address this issue quickly for your beloved pet.

To ensure your dog’s safety and comfort, we would like to let you know that the only viable solution is to safely remove the matting, resulting in a shave down of its coat. We understand that this may not be aesthetically pleasing, but it is a necessary step to restore blood flow to your dog’s skin and prevent further complications.

We want to be transparent about the potential risks associated with mat removal. Because your dog is severely tangled or matted, it is at greater risk of injury, stress, and trauma. Nicks, cuts, abrasions or skin irritation can occur during the process, especially if warts, moles, dew claws, or skin folds are trapped in the mats.

After the mat removal, your dog may experience itchiness, skin redness, and, in rare instances, a failure for hair to grow back. Hematomas are also a possibility. We want to assure you that our skilled groomers will do everything possible to minimize these risks, but it’s important to be aware of the potential outcomes. Mat prevention is done at home in between grooming appointments.

Additionally, there will be an additional charge for today’s grooming session due to the extensive matting that requires special attention and care. We appreciate your understanding in this matter, as the extra time and effort are essential to ensure the safety and well-being of your pet.
